The Town of Bethlehem, New York is seeking a new team member to work at our Water Treatment facilities as a Maintenance Mechanic. This title is full-time, with 40 hours per week. These facilities are 24/7 operations with shift work/weekend schedules, and with periodic overtime for time sensitive work as needed at the facility
General Responsibilities
- Maintains equipment and makes routine repairs
- Plans and lays out and builds new or remodels various construction projects such as buildings,
- sheds, and storage facilities
- Maintains and repairs or replaces doors, windows, countertops, etc.
- Performs repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, masonry, concrete work, overhead doors, and
- plant equipment
- Estimates materials required for repairs and new or remodeled construction
- Makes inspections of property to ascertain repair needs
Water Treatment–Specific Responsibilities
- Performs routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of chemical feed systems including
- metering pumps, tubing, injection points, and storage tanks
- Conducts preventative maintenance on treatment equipment including pumps, mixers, valves,
- and related mechanical systems
- Assists with maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems (pH,
- chlorine residual, turbidity, flow meters, level sensors, etc.)
- Calibrates and verifies accuracy of process instrumentation and analyzers in accordance with
- regulatory and manufacturer standards
- Performs basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs related to plant equipment and controls
- Maintains proper chemical handling procedures, including safe storage, transfer, and spill
- response
- Assists with process equipment cleaning and upkeep, including tanks, basins, and piping
- systems
- Helps ensure compliance with NYSDOH and NYDEC regulations through proper maintenance
- and documentation
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections
Preferred Qualifications / Additional Duties
Familiarity with water treatment processes (coagulation, filtration, disinfection, etc.) preferred
Ability to work in confined spaces, wet environments, and around chemical exposure
Responds to emergency maintenance issues and participates in on-call rotation if required
Note: This position involves shift work requiring nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Salary Range for this position is: $63,253 - $77,307
